Rob Munro, iNFOnews.ca — A distillery in Kelowna has sold for $3.8 million.

Wiseacre Farm Distillery in southeast Kelowna posted on its website in July it had not only sold out all its products but was closing down to transition to new owners.

William Wright Commercial Real Estate Services posted today, Sept. 27, the distillery, hobby farm and 6.06 acres on Goodison Road sold for $3.8 million.

“Sunday, July 23, was our last open day for the tasting room,” the Wiseacre posting said. “With overwhelming support from all of you small-batch spirit lovers, we sold out of all of our final batches that afternoon!”

According to the Farm Life publication, in 2014 James and Kristi Caldwell took over what was originally a hobby farm started by her parents. While still having livestock, they transformed it into a distillery as well.

“We’re all in (in more ways than one) when it comes to our hand-hewn spirits – which are fermented, distilled and bottled right here on the farm,” it says on the Wiseacre website. “We even grow a portion of the ingredients ourselves here on the property, and on nearby fields. Ask us about this endeavour, but you’ll want to pull up a chair.”

Their products included an R&D Gin series where “each blend has been meticulously crafted, balancing traditional juniper top notes with the complex addition of citrus and spice for character and depth,” according to the Wiseacre website. Other offerings include Lazy Ass Vodka and

The farm has a custom-built log home and has served as a venue for dozens of weddings.

“The current owners have established a very efficient operation that is primed for expansion and increased production,” the posting by realtor Nick Renton says. “The iconic water tower, which centres the property, is accompanied by a stunning tasting and distilling room that opens up to the rolling grass and mature trees of the southeast slope of the property. A hobby farm and west facing pasture is tucked away from the main residence which will leave you with a sense of privacy that is hard to find in the Okanagan.”
